July 29, 2015 -- A New Jersey Federal judge dismissed a proposed class action suit against Ambit Energy. The plaintiff claimed that Ambit had raised customers' rates after convincing them to switch providers with promises of savings on their energy bills. The court ruled that Ambit's practices were clearly stated in its terms of service.

Judge Michael Shipp found that the plaintiff's contract with Ambit "expressly allowed the company to change its rates," stipulated that it was a third-party energy provider, and superseded any previous agreements or understanding between the parties, including the plaintiff's claims that he was guaranteed savings that were not delivered.
