July 29, 2013 -- Reliv International, Inc., a maker of nutritional supplements that promote optimal health, this week announced that healthy energy shot 24K(TM) has earned a patent from the US government. Dr. Carl W. Hastings, Reliv’s chief scientific officer and creator of 24K, made the announcement as part of opening night at Reliv’s 25th Anniversary International Conference.
“This patent validates the work our R&D team put into making 24K unlike any other energy product on the market,” Hastings said. “24K provides a healthy alternative to the high-caffeine, high-sugar energy shots that have become so prevalent in recent years. The patent for 24K comes two years after the product was first introduced and was named the People’s Choice for Favorite New Consumer Product by the American Business Awards.
Energy drinks have surged in popularity in recent years, and health advocates have expressed concern about the excessive amounts of caffeine found in most of these products. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration continues to investigate reports of illness, injury and even death of people who drank products marketed as “energy drinks” or “energy shots.” In June, the American Medical Association adopted a policy supporting a ban of the marketing of high stimulant/caffeine drinks to adolescents under the age of 18.
